What Qualifications Do You Need to Join Each Fashion Level at Delight Technical College?
By Delight Technical College | Admissions Guide | 2026
One of the most common questions we receive from prospective students is: “Do my grades qualify me to study fashion design?” The great news is Delight Technical College has a level for almost everyone. Kenya’s TVET framework is designed to be inclusive, and our modular learning system ensures that wherever you are starting from, there is a clear path forward.
Here is an honest, straightforward breakdown of the minimum qualifications required at each level directly from our 2026 Prospectus.
🪡 Trade Test (Artisan)- Most Flexible Entry
- Minimum requirement: KCPE or KCSE (any grade)
- Duration: 6 months to 1 year
- Progression to: Level 4
- Examination body: NITA
The Trade Test is the most accessible entry point. If you have completed primary school (KCPE) or secondary school with any grade, you are eligible. Even learners without a KCSE can qualify. The focus here is entirely on practical ability not academic grades.
“You don’t need top grades to have top skills. The Trade Test is proof of that.”
✂️ Level 3- Artisan Foundation
- Minimum requirement: KCPE or KCSE (any grade)
- Duration: 6 months to 1 year
- Progression to: Level 4
- Examination body: TVET-CDACC
Level 3 shares the same open entry requirements as the Trade Test. It is ideal for school leavers who want a structured, nationally recognized qualification without needing strong KCSE results.
🧵 Level 4- Certificate
- Minimum requirement: KCSE D- (D Minus) or successful completion of Level 3
- Duration: 1 year
- Progression to: Level 5
- Examination body: TVET-CDACC
A D Minus in KCSE opens the door to Level 4. If you did not meet this grade, completing Level 3 at Delight gives you an equally valid pathway into this level. This makes the system truly progressive to your prior learning counts.
📐 Level 5- Craft
- Minimum requirement: KCSE D (D Plain) or successful completion of Level 4
- Duration: 1 year
- Progression to: Level 6
- Examination body: TVET-CDACC
Level 5 introduces more theory alongside practice, so a slightly stronger academic background is helpful. However, students who complete Level 4 at Delight can progress directly meaning your KCSE grade does not have to limit you.
🏆 Level 6- Diploma (Highest Level)
- Minimum requirement: KCSE C- (C Minus) or successful completion of Level 5
- Duration: 2 years
- Progression to: Level 7 (University pathway)
- Examination body: TVET-CDACC
The Level 6 Diploma is our most prestigious fashion qualification. With a C Minus in KCSE you can apply directly. Alternatively, completing Level 5 at Delight is a fully recognized pathway into this program. Level 6 graduates can also progress to Level 7 opening the door to university education.
