Delight’s Media Studio: A Professional Production Facility in the Heart of Nairobi

The quality of training a media student receives is fundamentally limited by the quality of the facilities they train in. You cannot learn professional cinematography on a consumer camera in a classroom. You cannot develop real post-production skills without professional editing software on capable hardware. You cannot build a photography portfolio without access to a properly equipped studio. At Delight Technical College, the School of Media & AI’s production facilities are designed to meet professional standards because the students who use them are being trained to enter a professional industry.

🎬 The Photography, Film, and Digital Media Production Studio

Delight’s dedicated media production studio is the creative centre of the School of Media & AI. It is a purpose-built, professionally equipped space used by Photography, Film, Videography, and Graphic Design students for practical training and project production.

Lighting Equipment:

• Professional LED continuous lighting rigs- for both photo and video production
• Softboxes and modifiers- for controlled, shaped soft lighting
• Reflectors, flags, and diffusers- for light shaping and manipulation
• Practical lights and background lighting- for three-dimensional studio setups

Camera Equipment:

• Professional digital cameras- DSLR and mirrorless, suitable for both photo and video
• A range of lenses- wide, standard, telephoto, and macro
• Camera support- professional tripods, fluid heads, and stabilisation equipment
• Audio recording equipment- boom microphones, lavalier systems, and mixers

Studio Infrastructure:

• Multiple backdrop options- white, grey, black, and coloured backgrounds
• Backdrop lighting systems- for independent control of background tone
• Shooting space- sufficient for full-length portrait, product, and fashion photography

 

🖥️ The Editing, Post-Production, and Graphic Design Suite

Adjacent to the production studio is Delight’s post-production suite where Film, Videography, Photography, and Graphic Design students complete their work.

Workstations:

• High-performance computers capable of handling large video and image files efficiently
• Reference-quality monitors- for accurate colour evaluation in grading and retouching work
• External storage and backup systems- protecting student work throughout the production process

Software:

• Adobe Creative Cloud- Premiere Pro, After Effects, Audition, Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign
• DaVinci Resolve- for professional colour grading
• Industry-standard software used by professionals across Kenya’s media industry

• Free campus Wi-Fi throughout the studio and post-production suite
• Access to Delight’s digital e-learning library- reference materials, tutorials, and industry resources
• Digital submission systems- enabling electronic submission of completed projects

 

🌿 Outdoor Production Spaces

The media school is not confined to indoor spaces. Nairobi’s urban landscape, accessible within walking distance of Delight’s central campus, provides rich and varied location shooting environments:

• CBD architecture- for commercial, corporate, and documentary work
• Street and market environments- for documentary, photojournalism, and reportage
• Jevanjee Gardens- the public green space directly outside the college, used for natural light shooting

 

🤝 Cross-School Collaboration Facilities

The proximity of the Media School and Fashion School facilities creates collaboration opportunities that neither school can access independently. Fashion students use the media studio for portfolio photography; film students use fashion school garments and designers for costume work. These cross-school collaborations produce better outcomes for both parties and mirror the collaborative reality of Kenya’s professional creative industry.
