Mentorship at Delight: Learning From People Who Have Done It
By Delight Technical College | Academic Quality & Student Support | 2026
There is a form of learning that no textbook or lecture can replicate: learning from someone who has actually done what you want to do. Mentorship, the guidance of a more experienced professional to a less experienced one, has been the foundation of skills education for as long as humanity has been passing on craft knowledge. At Delight Technical College, mentorship is not an add-on, it is embedded in the DNA of how we educate.
👨🏫 Who Are the Mentors at Delight?
Delight’s Tutors- Industry-Active Practitioners:
Every tutor at Delight is an active professional in their field, not a career academic who has never worked outside the classroom. Fashion tutors are practising designers, tailors, and fashion entrepreneurs. Media tutors are working photographers, filmmakers, and journalists. AI tutors are practitioners in technology and digital transformation. This means that every lesson draws on real, current industry experience and every tutor is a potential professional mentor.
Alumni Mentors:
Delight’s growing alumni community provides a powerful pool of mentors (graduates who are a few years ahead of current students on the same journey). These alumni mentors understand both the Delight experience and the professional reality that follows making them uniquely positioned to provide relevant, practical guidance.
Industry Guest Mentors:
Delight regularly invites industry professionals (designers, studio owners, media executives, and technology leaders) to campus for masterclasses, workshops, and mentoring sessions. These encounters provide students with perspectives and connections that go beyond the college community.
🌟 How Mentorship Works at Delight
One-on-One Tutor Mentorship:
Small class sizes mean every student has meaningful individual time with their tutors. A relationship that can develop into genuine professional mentorship over the course of the programme.
Group Mentorship- Masterclasses and Workshops:
Alumni and industry guest masterclasses bring groups of students into contact with inspiring professionals, sharing stories, demonstrating skills, and answering questions that textbooks cannot.
Portfolio Reviews:
Regular portfolio review sessions, where tutors and sometimes industry guests provide detailed feedback on students’ work are one of the most intensive and valuable forms of mentorship at Delight.
Industrial Attachment Supervision:
During industrial attachment, students are supervised by workplace mentors (industry professionals who guide their development in real professional contexts).
💡 The Long-Term Mentorship Relationship
The most valuable mentorship relationships often outlast the formal study period. Many Delight graduates maintain ongoing relationships with their tutors and alumni mentors, accessing advice, referrals, and support long after graduation. These long-term relationships are one of the most powerful elements of the Delight community.
“The most transformative education happens one-to-one (between a person who knows the way and a person who is learning to find it). At Delight, we are intentional about creating those relationships.”
