Innovation Challenges, Hackathons & Start-Up Labs: The Entrepreneurial Side of Delight
By Delight Technical College | Innovation & Entrepreneurship | 2026
Delight Technical College is not just a place where you learn skills, it is a place where you apply them boldly, test ideas, and build the entrepreneurial instincts that will carry you through your career. Our Innovation Challenges, Hackathons, and Start-Up Labs are where theory meets enterprise.
💡 Innovation Challenges
Throughout the academic year, Delight runs structured Innovation Challenges (competitions) where students from both schools (Fashion and Media/AI) are given a real-world brief and asked to develop creative solutions.
Examples of challenges:
- Design a sustainable fashion collection using upcycled materials
- Develop a digital journalism concept for a new audience segment
- Create an AI-powered solution for a local community problem
- Design a brand identity for a fictional start-up with a 48-hour deadline
These challenges push students out of their comfort zones, develop problem-solving under pressure, and build the creative resilience that professional life demands.
💻 Hackathons- For the AI & Tech Students
The School of Media & AI hosts hackathons where AI, ICT, and digital journalism students collaborate intensively to build a working digital product or solution in a compressed time frame. These events mirror real tech industry practice and are a significant portfolio builder.
🚀 Start-Up Labs
Delight’s Innovation & Entrepreneurship Hub houses a Start-Up Lab is a dedicated space and programme for students who are serious about launching a business. The Lab provides:
- Structured business development workshops
- One-on-one mentorship from experienced entrepreneurs
- Connections to investors, incubators, and business networks
- Support for entering national and regional entrepreneurship competitions
- Prototype and product development space
🤝 Cross-School Collaboration
One of the most exciting aspects of these programmes is the cross-school collaboration they encourage. A fashion design student may partner with a graphic design student for branding, a media student for photography, and an AI student for a digital component building a full creative business team within the Delight community.
“At Delight, we do not just teach you to work for someone else’s company. We help you build your own.”
