There is a significant difference between being a great designer or maker and being able to run a successful fashion business. Many talented fashion graduates start businesses only to struggle with the operational realities of managing people, production, inventory, and finances. Level 6’s Industrial Organisation Management module is specifically designed to bridge this gap giving graduates the leadership and management skills to build fashion businesses that are not just creative but functional, efficient, and profitable.

📋 About the Module

  • Module: Industrial Organisation Management
  • Level: 6 | Term: Five (Module V)
  • Total Hours: 100 | Hours per Week: 9

🏭 What Is Industrial Organisation?

Industrial organisation refers to the way a production business is structured and managed to produce output efficiently and to quality standards. In the fashion context, this includes:

  • How a fashion production team or factory is organised and led
  • How work is planned, scheduled, and monitored
  • How quality is maintained throughout the production process
  • How resources (people, machines, materials) are managed effectively
  • How production challenges are anticipated and solved

📚 What You Will Learn

Business Structure and Management:

  • Types of fashion business structures like sole trader, partnership, limited company
  • Organisational structures- understanding hierarchies, roles, and responsibilities
  • Building and managing a production team
  • Leadership styles and their application in creative and production environments

Production Planning:

  • Production scheduling- planning the sequence and timing of production activities
  • Capacity planning- matching production capacity to order volumes
  • Workflow management- ensuring smooth, efficient production flow
  • Managing multiple orders simultaneously- prioritisation and scheduling

Supply Chain and Procurement:

  • Sourcing fabric and materials like supplier relationships, quality, and pricing
  • Managing supplier relationships professionally
  • Inventory management- maintaining appropriate stock levels without over-investing

Financial Management:

  • Costing and pricing for production runs
  • Cash flow management- the critical skill for small fashion business survival
  • Profit and loss awareness- understanding the financial health of your business

Health, Safety, and Labour:

  • Workplace health and safety in a fashion production environment
  • Employment law basics- understanding your obligations as an employer
  • Managing a team fairly and legally

💼 Why This Module Creates Business Owners

Fashion graduates who have completed Industrial Organisation Management can do something most of their peers cannot: they can run a business not just practise a craft. They know how to manage people, plan production, control costs, and build the operational infrastructure that turns creative talent into commercial success.

“Great design is the seed of a fashion business. Industrial Organisation Management is the soil, the water, and the sunlight that makes it grow.”
