Building a Press Kit for a Fashion Brand: What Buyers and Journalists Need
By Delight Technical College | School of Tailoring, Fashion & Design | 2026
When a Delight Technical College fashion graduate is ready to approach retail buyers, attend trade shows, seek press coverage, or pitch to investors, a professional press kit (a curated package of brand information, imagery, and supporting materials) is an essential business tool. A well-prepared press kit communicates professionalism, makes it easy for recipients to write about or buy from your brand, and significantly increases the likelihood of a positive response.
📋 What a Fashion Brand Press Kit Contains
Brand Overview / Lookbook:
A concise, visually compelling document (typically 4-8 pages) introducing the brand (its story, its aesthetic, its target customer, and its current collection). The lookbook images are typically the centrepiece, communicated with minimal but carefully written supporting text.
Designer Biography:
A professional, third-person biography of the designer covering relevant training (including Delight qualifications), creative background, and the brand’s origin story. Typically one page maximum.
Collection Information Sheet:
For wholesale or buyer audiences specifically, detailed information about available styles, fabric options, sizing, pricing (wholesale and recommended retail), minimum order quantities, and lead times.
High-Resolution Images:
Professional lookbook images available in high resolution for press use, typically provided via a download link rather than included in a physical package, given file size. At least 5-10 strong editorial or product images.
Contact Information:
Clear, complete contact details like name, phone, email, website, and social media handles making it effortless for interested parties to follow up.
Press Coverage (if any):
Any existing press mentions, blog features, or media coverage, demonstrating that the brand has already attracted external attention.
🎓 Building Press Kit Skills at Delight
Research Methods (Level 6) and Entrepreneurial Skills (Level 5) together build the skills needed to produce professional brand communication materials (research skills for understanding what buyers and press actually need, and entrepreneurship training for articulating brand value clearly and compellingly).
📸 The Photography Imperative
A press kit is only as strong as its photography. Delight’s cross-school collaboration between Fashion and Photography students creates a natural pathway to professional press kit imagery (mutual portfolio-building that produces genuinely high-quality assets for both parties).
💼 When to Use a Press Kit
- Approaching boutique buyers and retail partners for wholesale consideration
- Submitting for fashion show participation and creative competitions
- Pitching to fashion press, bloggers, and digital media
- Approaching investors or grant funders for business development support
“A well-prepared press kit tells buyers and journalists everything they need to know about your brand and makes saying yes significantly easier than saying no. At Delight, we prepare graduates to communicate their brands with genuine professional credibility.”
