Sustainable Fashion at Delight: Training the Next Generation of Eco-Conscious Designers
By Delight Technical College | Fashion & Sustainability | 2026
The fashion industry is one of the world’s largest polluters but it is also one of the industries most capable of transforming itself. At Delight Technical College, sustainability is not an elective module, it is a core principle woven into everything we teach. Here is why sustainable fashion matters and how Delight is preparing its students to lead the change.
🌿 What Is Sustainable Fashion?
Sustainable fashion refers to clothing design, production, and consumption that minimizes environmental impact and promotes social responsibility. It includes:
- Using eco-friendly and natural fabrics
- Zero-waste pattern cutting and fabric use
- Upcycling and repurposing garments and materials
- Ethical sourcing and fair labour practices
- Designing for longevity rather than disposability
♻️ Sustainability at Delight- What We Teach

🎭 Campus Events That Celebrate Sustainability
Delight puts sustainability into practice beyond the classroom. Campus events include:
- ‘Wear The Green’- Delight’s sustainability campaign celebrating eco-conscious fashion
- Cloth Swap Drives- where students and the community exchange clothing rather than buy new
- KITFest- a cultural festival that celebrates locally made, locally sourced fashion
🌍 Why This Matters in Africa
Africa generates significant textile waste through the second-hand clothing trade (known as mitumba in Kenya). At the same time, African designers and artisans have a rich tradition of natural fibres, local weaving, and handcraft that is inherently sustainable. Delight students are trained to celebrate and build on this heritage while integrating modern sustainable practices.
“The most powerful thing a fashion designer can do is make something beautiful that does not harm the world. That is what we train our students to do.”
💡 Sustainable fashion is a growing market globally. Consumers are willing to pay more for ethically made, eco-conscious clothing. This is a business opportunity, not just a moral choice.
