If you’re a Tanzanian student planning to study at Delight Technical College (or any other institution in Kenya), you’ll need a Kenyan Student Pass — the official document that allows you to reside in Kenya legally for your studies.

Here’s a simple, step-by-step guide made just for Tanzanian students, including what documents you need, where to apply, how long it takes, and useful tips along the way. 🇹🇿➡️🇰🇪

📝 What is a Student Pass?

A Student Pass is a permit issued by the Kenyan Directorate of Immigration Services. It allows foreign nationals to study in Kenya legally. Even though Tanzanians don’t need a visa to enter Kenya, a Student Pass is required for stays longer than 90 days.

âś… Who Needs It?

All non-Kenyan citizens, including East African Community (EAC) students like Tanzanians, must apply for a Student Pass if they plan to study full-time in Kenya.

📍 Step-by-Step Guide to Applying

  1. Get an Admission Letter

Apply to Delight Technical College and get your:

  • Official Admission Letter
  • Course details and duration
  • Fee structure

👉 Delight will guide you through the next steps too — they help students apply!

  1. Create an eFNS Account

Visit the eFNS portal (Foreign Nationals Services) and create a profile.

  1. Fill Out the Student Pass Application

Once you log in:

  • Click on “Student Pass” under the “Permits and Passes” section.
  • Fill out the form with:
    • Your passport details
    • School details
    • Duration of study
  1. Upload Required Documents

Scan and upload the following:

  • Copy of passport biodata page (valid for at least 6 months)
  • Passport-sized photo
  • Admission letter from Delight
  • Commitment letter from the institution (Delight provides this)
  • Academic certificates/transcripts (where applicable)
  • Copy of Tanzanian ID or birth certificate

đź’ˇ Tip: Make sure all scans are clear and readable.

  1. Pay the Application Fee

As of now:

  • Processing fee: Ksh 5,000 (around TSh 90,000)
  • Annual student pass fee: Ksh 5,000 (some institutions help with this)

Payment is made online via the eCitizen portal or M-Pesa (Delight can assist if needed).

  1. Wait for Approval

Processing time usually takes:

  • 2–4 weeks
  • You’ll receive a notification via email or portal when it’s ready

Once approved, you can download and print your student pass or collect it at the Immigration office in Nairobi.

🧭 Pro Tips for Tanzanian Students

  • Apply early — ideally at least 4–6 weeks before your course begins
  • Delight Technical College offers support with the entire process
  • You can enter Kenya visa-free while your pass is processing but must get the pass before the 90-day period ends
  • Keep your passport and pass copy with you at all times for identification
