This Friday, the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games was no match for Fashion Week! The banks of the Seine were transformed into a veritable catwalk, where stars and athletes competed in glamour. But who were the fashion houses and young designers behind these dazzling stage costumes?

The grandeur of the event was elevated by the collaboration with top fashion houses like LVMH and Dior, who lent their creative genius to the Olympic stage. Amid this spectacular display, a spotlight shone brightly on the contributions of Kenyan designers, showcasing the nation’s vibrant cultural heritage and modern fashion sensibilities.

Fashion Meets Athletics: The Kenyan Influence

Sending our best wishes to #OfficialTeamKenya at the Olympics Paris 2024. Proudly dressed in #MadeInKenya🇰🇪, our athletes not only represent the country through their sports but also through the elegance and style of their attire. The Kenyan kits, inspired by Maasai patterns and African prints, are a testament to the rich tapestry of our heritage.

Designers Behind Team Kenya’s Dazzling Outfits.

Kovu Couture

Leading the charge in designing the stunning outfits for the opening ceremony was Kovu Couture. Known for their innovative designs that blend traditional African elements with contemporary fashion, Kovu Couture created outfits that made a bold statement on the Olympic stage. Their designs highlighted the beauty of Kenyan artistry, capturing the essence of our cultural pride.

 

Ushanga Kenya Initiative

The ladies’ accessories, crafted by the Ushanga Kenya Initiative, added a touch of elegance and authenticity to the ensembles. This initiative empowers local women artisans, ensuring that each piece of jewelry and accessory tells a story of tradition and craftsmanship. The intricate beadwork and vibrant colors of the accessories perfectly complemented the outfits, adding a unique flair.

Vivo Fashion Group – Wandia Gichuru

The dresses worn by the female athletes were produced by Vivo Fashion Group, under the guidance of Wandia Gichuru. Vivo’s commitment to creating stylish, comfortable, and culturally relevant clothing was evident in every stitch. The dresses not only highlighted the athletes’ grace and strength but also underscored the importance of supporting local fashion industries.

Smiles Collection

Men’s outfits were meticulously crafted by #SmilesCollection. Their designs combined practicality with style, ensuring the athletes looked dashing while maintaining comfort. The use of traditional prints and modern tailoring techniques created a harmonious blend that resonated well on the global stage.

Zanta Adeyde

The beaded hats, designed by Zanta Adeyde, were another standout element of the Kenyan outfits. Connie Aluoch

Stylist and project manager Connie Aluoch played a pivotal role in bringing the vision of these outfits to life.
