At the heart of every beautiful home, stylish office, or luxurious hotel is the subtle artistry of soft furnishing and upholstery. From custom cushions and drapes to expertly upholstered sofas and headboards, this craft transforms interior spaces with texture, comfort, and design.

At Delight Technical College, our NITA-accredited Soft Furnishing & Upholstery course (Grade III, II, I) prepares learners to master this versatile, high-demand skill for both domestic and commercial markets.

Whether you’re an aspiring artisan, a creative entrepreneur, or a technician looking to formalize your skills, this program blends hands-on training, design aesthetics, and industry standards to help you build a fulfilling career.

Program Structure: Grade III to Grade I

The course is delivered in three progressive levels, each building technical ability and design understanding.

🧵 Grade III – Foundation Level

This beginner stage covers:

  • Introduction to tools and materials (foam, fabrics, lining, zippers, studs)
  • Sewing basics for home furnishings
  • Making cushions, basic curtains, tie-backs, and table runners
  • Hand tools and machine handling
  • Introduction to furniture structure and padding

Learners start by creating simple but functional and decorative soft items.

🪑 Grade II – Intermediate Level

At this stage, students gain:

  • Skills in upholstering basic furniture: stools, dining chairs, ottomans
  • Advanced curtain types (pleated, blackout, roman blinds)
  • Measurement and fitting techniques
  • Decorative techniques (piping, quilting, frills, trims)
  • Cost estimation and customer service

This level sharpens both design execution and client handling skills, opening up room for custom work and small contracts.

🛋️ Grade I – Advanced Level

Designed for those moving toward specialization or workshop leadership:

  • Upholstering large and complex furniture (sofas, headboards, recliners)
  • Wall padding and acoustic panel covering
  • Interior styling concepts and color coordination
  • Business planning for upholstery services
  • Team supervision and quality assurance

By the end of Grade I, learners are equipped to start businesses, handle larger projects, or manage workshop teams.
