By Delight Technical College | Delight Modelling Club | 2026

The runway walk is one of the most visible and technically specific performance skills in the fashion industry and the way a garment moves and presents on a confidently, correctly walking model significantly affects how that garment is perceived by an audience, buyers, and press. Delight Technical College’s Modelling Club provides structured training in this specific performance discipline, complementing the fashion design and production training happening elsewhere on campus.

🚢 What Makes a Professional Runway Walk

Posture and Carriage:

A confident, elongated posture, shoulders back, core engaged, chin level that presents both the model and the garment to maximum advantage, communicating confidence and authority to the audience.

Stride and Rhythm:

A consistent, measured stride that allows the garment’s movement and drape to be properly observed β€” too fast and the garment’s movement is lost to the eye; too slow or hesitant and the overall presentation loses its confident energy.

The Turn:

A clean, controlled pivot at the end of the runway that allows the audience and photographers to see the garment from multiple angles before the model returns backstage (technically simple in concept but requiring practice to execute smoothly and confidently).

Facial Expression and Presence:

Maintaining an appropriate, brand-consistent facial expression and gaze throughout the walk, neither vacant nor overly expressive, calibrated to the specific tone the designer and show are aiming to project.

πŸŽ“ How the Delight Modelling Club Trains This Skill

  • Structured practice sessions building the foundational posture, stride, and turn technique
  • Practice walking in different garment types- understanding how a flowing gown requires different movement consideration than a structured, tailored piece
  • Building confidence and stage presence through repeated practice and supportive coaching
  • Preparing specifically for Delight’s own fashion shows and any external show opportunities

🀝 The Designer-Model Collaboration

Effective fashion shows require collaboration between designers and models. Designers communicating how they want a specific garment presented (a more structured, formal walk for tailored pieces; a softer, flowing walk for draped occasion wear), and models translating that direction into confident, consistent performance.

πŸ’Ό Beyond the Runway (Where Modelling Skills Lead)

  • Professional modelling careers- runway, editorial, and commercial modelling work
  • Brand ambassador and presentation roles requiring confident public presence
  • Personal confidence and presentation skills that benefit any career requiring public-facing professionalism
  • Event hosting and presentation roles that draw on the poise and stage presence developed through modelling training

🌟 The Modelling Club Within Delight’s Ecosystem

The Modelling Club’s training directly supports Delight’s broader fashion show production ensuring that the garments fashion design students work so hard to create are presented by models trained to showcase them effectively, completing the full creative ecosystem from initial fabric selection through final, confident runway presentation.

“A beautifully constructed garment deserves to be shown at its absolute best. At Delight, the Modelling Club trains the performers who make that happen turning fabric and stitching into a moment of genuine runway impact.”
