Community Engagement at Delight: Giving Back, Growing Together
By Delight Technical College | Community & Social Impact | 2026
Delight Technical College was built on a belief: that creative education should not just transform individual lives, it should transform communities. Since 2018, we have been actively engaged with the Nairobi community and beyond, using our skills, resources, and networks to create positive social impact. Here is a look at how Delight gives back.
❤️ Charity Drives
Delight students and staff participate in regular charity drives like collecting clothing, food, school supplies, and other necessities for vulnerable communities in Nairobi and beyond. The Cloth Swap Drives, which are also sustainability events, often double as collection points for clothing donations to those in need.
👩🏫 Skills Mentorship for the Community
Delight regularly opens its workshops and studios to community members, particularly young people who cannot afford full enrolment, for targeted skills sessions and taster workshops. These sessions give the community a taste of the transformative power of creative training.
🌍 Empowerment Initiatives
Beyond the campus, Delight supports community empowerment through:
- Training workshops for women’s groups in tailoring and dressmaking
- Youth skills camps during school holidays
- Partnerships with NGOs and government programmes targeting skills development
- Mentorship of young entrepreneurs from disadvantaged backgrounds
📣 Advocacy for Creative Education
Delight actively advocates for the value of TVET education and creative skills challenging the narrative that academic routes are superior to technical and vocational pathways. Through public events, media appearances, and community talks, Delight champions the transformative power of creative and technical education for Kenyans at every socioeconomic level.
🤝 Corporate and Industry Partnerships
Delight works with industry partners to create opportunities for students and graduates:
- Internship and placement partnerships with fashion studios, media companies, and tech firms
- Guest speaker programmes bringing industry professionals to campus
- Industry-sponsored scholarship and bursary opportunities
- Collaborative projects between Delight and community organisations
👨👩👧 The Delight Family- A Community That Keeps Growing
Perhaps the most powerful form of community engagement at Delight is the Delight family itself. Students from different counties, countries, and backgrounds come together on campus and build lasting friendships, professional partnerships, and support networks. Graduates stay connected through the alumni community and continue to give back mentoring current students, hiring graduates, and representing Delight’s values in everything they do.
“Education changes the individual. But when that individual uses their education to give back, that is when it changes the world.”
