What Is the KNQF and How Does It Benefit Delight Students?
By Delight Technical College | Academic & Career Planning | 2026
You will see the acronym KNQF mentioned frequently at Delight Technical College in our prospectus, in our academic documentation, and in conversations with our admissions team. But what is the KNQF, and why does it matter to you as a student? This blog explains everything you need to know.
📋 What Is the KNQF?
The Kenya National Qualifications Framework (KNQF) is a government-established system that organizes all educational qualifications in Kenya from primary school certificates to university degrees into a single, coherent hierarchy of levels. It was established to:
- Create a clear, national standard for what each level of qualification means
- Enable learners to understand how their qualification compares to others
- Create clear pathways for progression from one level to the next
- Enable employers to understand the value of different qualifications
- Facilitate international recognition of Kenyan qualifications
📊 The KNQF Levels- Where Delight Sits
| KNQF Level | Qualification Type | Delight Programme |
| Level 3 | Artisan / Foundation | Fashion Design (Tailoring/Dressmaking) |
| Level 4 | Certificate | Fashion Design Technology |
| Level 5 | Craft | Fashion Design Technology |
| Level 6 | Diploma | Fashion Design / Film / Journalism / AI |
| Level 7+ | Degree & Above | University (progression from Level 6) |
🚀 The Progression Promise
The most powerful feature of the KNQF for Delight students is the progression pathway. Each level is designed to feed into the next meaning:
- A Trade Test holder can enter Level 4 directly
- A Level 4 graduate can enter Level 5
- A Level 5 graduate can enter Level 6
- A Level 6 Diploma holder can apply for Level 7 (university degree programmes)
This means that wherever you start at Delight even with minimal academic qualifications, you have a clear, structured pathway that can take you all the way to university education.
🌍 International Recognition
KNQF qualifications are designed to be internationally comparable particularly within the East African Community (EAC). This means a Delight Level 6 Diploma is not just recognized in Kenya it is a credible qualification across the region.
“The KNQF turns every level into a stepping stone, not a destination. At Delight, there is always a next level and we help you reach it.”
